Who the F#$K Knew: Tidbits

Small tricks. Fewer headaches. A weekly pick, with every past tidbit kept right here.

This week's homepage pick

1 tidbit found. Newest first.

Browsers |

Your tabs have a snitch.

Thirty tabs. One culprit. Catch it.

In Google Chrome on Windows or Linux, press Shift + Esc. That's Chrome's own task manager, not Windows Task Manager. Sort by Memory and catch the tab or task hogging it. Want to kick it out? Save first, then choose End process. Unsaved work in that task goes with it.

On Mac, use Google Chrome's menu > More tools > Task Manager. Edge and Brave also document Shift + Esc for their browser task managers; don't assume every Chromium browser uses it.

Checked against: Google: Chrome keyboard shortcuts | Google: Speed up Google Chrome | Microsoft: Edge Browser Task Manager | Brave: Windows/Linux shortcuts

How the tidbits work

What happens to last week's pick?
It stays in this archive. Search by topic, title or the words in the tip. The homepage pick can change without deleting an earlier tidbit.
Does a tip work on every computer?
No. Read the platform notes and the linked source. Shortcuts, menus and features can change. Save work before closing a process.
