Find a Windows Server version

Jump to a long-term servicing release: 2012 / R2, 2016, 2019, 2022 or 2025. Mainstream support ends before extended support, which includes security updates. Paid Extended Security Updates (ESU), where offered, are a separate program after regular extended support ends; an ESU date is not an extension of standard support. Confirm your version and eligibility on Microsoft's lifecycle page.

Coverage note: some values are retained from earlier reviews. Unresolved releases or dates may be omitted; feed retrieval is not verification of every displayed value.

Status calculated for 2026-11-04: 20 versions tracked; 1 supported, 2 security fixes only, 1 ending within 90 days, 16 end of life. Calculated from the dates stored here, not a vendor verification date. With JavaScript on, the calculation uses today's date.

Frequently asked questions

Which Microsoft Windows Server versions are still supported?

Using the dates stored here, status calculated for 2026-11-04 shows 4 of 20 tracked Microsoft Windows Server versions are still in support (Windows Server 2025 (LTSC), Windows Server 2022 (LTSC), Windows Server 2019 (LTSC), Windows Server 2016 (LTSC)). The table above shows the calculated status of every tracked version; retained values may still need vendor confirmation.

What is the newest Microsoft Windows Server version tracked here?

Windows Server 2025 (LTSC) (latest update 10.0.26100), released 2024-11-01. This is the newest release included here, not necessarily the newest vendor release. Unresolved releases may be omitted while their dates or support status are checked. See the linked vendor source for current releases.

Where do these Microsoft Windows Server dates come from?

From the vendor sources linked at the top of this page (vendor lifecycle page) and the source entry. Vendors can revise dates, so confirm there before you schedule a migration.

Extended support

After extended support ends, Microsoft sells Extended Security Updates (ESU) for up to 3 more years of Critical and Important security fixes, through Commercial Licensing or enabled by Azure Arc. ESUs are free for Windows Server VMs running in Azure. Windows Server 2012/R2 ESU year 3 ends October 13, 2026. Source: Microsoft ESU FAQ. Prices and dates change; confirm with the vendor before you plan on it.

Planning notes

Long-term servicing channel (LTSC) releases such as Windows Server 2022 and 2025 are supported for ten years: five years of mainstream support with new features and fixes, then five years of extended support with security fixes only. Annual Channel releases like 23H2 are supported for a much shorter window and are aimed at container hosts.

As the table shows, Windows Server 23H2 (Annual Channel) ends May 12, 2026, while the LTSC releases run into the 2030s. If you run 23H2, the practical move is to an LTSC release.

After extended support ends, Microsoft sells Extended Security Updates for up to three extra years as a stopgap, not a plan. Confirm edition and licensing with Microsoft before you count on it.

Note: "Not announced" means no confirmed date is shown here; check the linked vendor source. "Ended (no date published)" means the source marks it ended without a date. Dates are compared as calendar days in your own time zone. A published end date counts as the last day of support.

Some values are retained from earlier reviews, and unresolved releases or dates may be omitted. Confirm with the linked vendor source before a purchase or migration decision.
